Hello to all
First congratulations for this great forum.

I need your help, in the past i use to be a free lancer on surf photos and on other sports
So i still have my old gear that i post it bellow:

2 X Nikon F90X
Nikkor ED 400 mm F2.8
Tamron SP 300 mm F2.8
Nikkor AF-ED 80-200 F2.8
TOKINA ATX-PRO 70-80 mm F2.8
Nikkor AF 50 mm F1.8
TAMRON 20-40 mm F2.7-3.5
Nikkor TC16A, TC-14B, TC-201
2 speed light SB26 and SB28

To much gear to be on a bag!!!!
I thinking to invest on a digital camera Body, and i whant to use some of my old lenses, that quality was the driven purpose for having all these f2,8 mm.
What should be the camera body to buy?Huh?, i will apreciate any comment, of course price is a must ,as i am not selling photos anymore to live

There is two choices :
- first choice : the nikon D700. You will shot exactly the same way than your nikon F90 x (no crop)
- second choice , the nikon D300, but there is the 1,5 crop factor, that might worry you.

So I suggest the nikon D700.

Au moins il est poli, il trouve le forum fantastique sans parler français.  Grimaçant

And what about money? Is the D700 too expensive?

Good advises : go for a Nikon D300 or a D700, depending on the money you're likely to spend.

In theory the D700 would seem ideal as you're already covered in terms of focal lengths from 20 to 400mm. The D700 is an FX camera and will give you the same field of view as the F90Xs.

In practice, I'm not sure the Tamron 20-40 and the Tokina 28-70 2.8 will fare that well with digital bodies. And I'm not sure that all your long teles are AF ones, or that you want to keep lugging your 400mm around.

So, if you are looking at replacing all/most of your lenses, the D300 option (a DX camera) is going to be cheaper and lighter: there are some pretty good and inexpensive DX zooms in the ultrawide to standard range. And your 80-200 2.8 is going to give you a 300mm equivalent at the long end, your 300mm a 450mm equivalent. By selling the 400mm 2.8, you should generate more than enough cash for the upgrade.

Your flashes are going to be limited on recent digital bodies. You can still use them in the perfectly functional "A" or manual modes, but not TTL anymore.

If you want to benefit from the fancy i-TTL flash automatism, plan on buying an SB600 or SB900.
