L'objectif se trouve facilement sur eBay auprès de vendeurs de Hong Kong, à un peu plus de 500 € en version noire et de 600 € en version argentée.

Pros:

    completely metal casing,
    excellent image quality in the frame centre already after a slight stopping down,
    low level of longitudinal chromatic aberration,
    sensible control of lateral chromatic aberration,
    moderate distortion,
    not very bothersome vignetting.

Cons:

    huge discrepancies between real aperture values and the values you see on the aperture ring,
    unacceptable image quality near the maximum relative aperture,
    weak image quality on the edge of the frame,
    high coma,
    horrible performance against bright light,
    no blackening inside the tube,
    too narrow working range of the manual focus ring.

The number of flaws of the tested lens and its rather steep price don't make it an especially recommendable instrument. I am not sure whether different botched jobs and cocks-up we saw in the tested specimen are only characteristic for the initial series or the rest of production as well; anyway an implementation of better quality control seems to be necessary in this case. Lack of blackening inside the tube, weak coatings, angular shape of the aperture and discrepancies between the real aperture values and the markings on the aperture ring are easy to improve after all. If you removed those flaws our assessment of the tested lens would be noticeably higher; however in the current situation I definitely don't recommend the purchase.

Le Mitakon 35 mm f/0,95 était un peu décevant, c'est le moins qu'on puisse dire (cf. par exemple l'essai de lensTip.com), aussi Shenyang Optical Electronics / Zhong Yi Optics a-t-il décidé... de le refaire complètement pour les montures APS-C (Canon EOS-M, Fujifilm X et Sony E).

La version II vient d'être annoncée :

The mark II version features a drastic improvement of sharpness, better control of chromatic aberrations and much more compact size. The new version comes with a Fuji X / Sony E / EOS-M mount and is able to cover the image circle of APS-C sized sensors.

Zhongyi Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 Mark II is a ultra-fast prime lens which provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of around 53mm in APS-C cameras. A maximum aperture of f/0.95 makes it extremely convenient to shoot at a low light conditions without flash. The new optical design incorporates a 11 elements in 8 groups structure, including 1 Extra-low dispersion element, 2 Extra-high Refractive Index elements and 3 High Refractive Index elements. This structure effectively improves the image resolution by 30% compared to the previous version from corners to corners. This also controls the chromatic aberrations very well and deliver excellent image sharpness even at f/0.95.

The new Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 is light and compact. The total weight is reduced from 680g to 460g, making it an ideal companion for the compact mirrorless cameras. Manual focus design and a click-less, silent aperture ring promote smooth handling and are especially well-suited to video applications. The lens is built in metallic enclosure with additional protective process and finest finishing, which gives extra durability and aesthetic.

La grosse vingtaine de photos qui illustre le test peut être visualisée en 2.000 points de large.

The original Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95's overall image performance was a bit disappointing in quite a few areas.

And now we have the new mark II version, a significant upgrade over the original version. While coma and the flare around point light source at wide open could both be improved, and I still don't like how close the placement of the aperture and focus rings is, it's a lot sharper, has pretty nice bokeh, better flare control and the lens just feel more polished.  And with all these improvements, somehow ZY Optics still managed to reduce the size and weight of the lens quite significantly over the original version. This is very refreshing as most companies are creating bigger and bigger lenses these days.

Whilst not perfect, the Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 II is a lot more refined and well balanced design than their previous products. Looking at how fast the Mitakon lenses are improving over the last few years, it won't take long before they can completely match or maybe even exceed the quality of premium lenses from Germany and Japan.

If you are looking for an affordable ultra fast prime lens for your APS-C mirrorless camera, this is a lens you shouldn't miss.
