- qualité d'image appréciable sur les bords
- aberration chromatique latérale convenablement corrigée
- aberration chromatique longitudinale insignifiante
- pas de problème d'aberration sphérique
- la distorsion n'est pas gênante
- coma imperceptible
- stabilisation d'image sensationnelle
- autofocus raisonnablement rapide, précis et silencieux.

Points faibles :

- astigmatisme un peu trop élevé au milieu de la gamme de focales
- la performance en contre-jour aurait pu être meilleure.

The list of pros of the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 50–200 mm f/2.8–4 ASPH. is really long; in order to be honest I have to admit these two cons I added a bit by force because they aren't serious flaws at all. The weight and physical dimensions are additional assets of the tested lens, especially if you compare them to respective dimensions of its full frame 100-400 mm rivals. This device is really small and handy and I was able to appreciate it running up and down the hills of Faroe Islands. What's more, its good aperture fastness allows you to attach it to a teleconverter without lowering the results and I mean here every system body available. You cannot say the same thing about slower 100-400 mm lenses.

Un peu déçu par rapport au 100/400 aux mêmes focales !
Si on a pas vraiment besoin des plus grandes ouvertures,
je ne vois pas le besoin de changer !
Je conserve mes Zuiko 75/300 (très bon) et Lumix 100/400...
Faut voir également la perte éventuelle avec convertisseurs 1.4 et 2 !

As you might expect, the Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 8-18mm f/2.8-4 ASPH is a very decent performer in its category. The image center is very sharp and the borders and corners are pretty good as well - technically at least. Field curvature is a bit of an issue at 12mm albeit that's not unheard of in this class (albeit usually at the wide end). Image distortions as well as vignetting are low when taking advantage of image auto-correction (obviously). The quality of the native design isn't quite as hot in these respects though. Lateral CAs are very low and contribute to the high-quality perception. If pushed you will be able to spot some ghostings are a bit of glare with strong light sources in the scene. However, it isn't worse than the competition in this respect.

A highlight of the lens (as well as its Leica cousins) is the build quality. We really wished this would be standard across all lenses. The Leica lens feels both sturdy and extremely well assembled with smooth controls and weather sealing on top of all that. Some may regret that Panasonic skipped an image stabilizer but honestly we agree with this approach because it's already difficult enough to produce ultra-wide lenses without much sample variations.

Overall the Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 8-18mm f/2.8-4 ASPH follows a balanced approach in this category. It skips a constant aperture in favour of having front filters combined with a compact size. We wouldn't state that it excels compared to its Olympus and Panasonic mates but it is in the very same league and as such an appealing option.

Il apparaît que la formule optique du Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 50-200 mm f/2,8-4 Asph. Power O.I.S. a été développée conjointement par Panasonic et Sigma.

En effet, elle a fait l'objet d'une demande de brevet 2019-32353 déposée conjointement le 4 avril 2017 par les deux entreprises et publiée le 28 février 2019 sous la référence 2019-032353.

La demande de brevet montre que l'objectif est techniquement un 51-195 mm f/2,9-4,1.

Ci-dessous la formule optique de l'objectif et celle du premier des six exemples de la demande de brevet. Tout correspond, y compris les lentilles asphériques.

Je trouve que Panasonic a quand même été malin en sortant ce trio de lentilles 8-18mm 12-60mm et 50-200mm, avec ces ouvertures glissantes F2.8-4.
Au final, le trio est très bon, assez peu encombrant, pas méga cher, et couvre les besoins de bcp de cas (plage de focales équivalentes 16mm -> 400mm).
Bref parfaitement adapté si on a un boitier m43 un peu volumineux type GH5 ou G9.

Je préfère cette stratégie à celle de Olympus et sa gamme PRO F2.8, encore un poil meilleure surement, mais plus encombrante (7-14mm f2.8, 40-150mm f2. et chère au final.
Mais bon après c'est bien aussi qu'il y ait 2 stratégies différentes chez 2 constructeurs, ça laisse le choix

The Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 50-200mm f/2.8-4 ASPH Power OIS is an outstanding lens ... with one exception. It excels in most of the formal parameters. In terms of resolution, it is extremely sharp across the zoom range. Image distortions are absent in conventionally processed images with just a little distortion present in RAW images. Lateral CAs are negligible. Vignetting is usually auto-corrected so no worries here normally. If you chose to deactivate auto-correction, you may notice an elevated light falloff at maximum aperture though. The biggest weakness is in an informal parameter - the bokeh. Out-of-focus highlights have an odd inner structure and the general rendition of background blur is also harsher than desirable in certain scenes at least.

The build quality is excellent and if you handle it, you can immediately feel the difference compared to conventional Panasonic lenses. The subjective quality perception is even superior to Olympus PRO lenses in our book. It's still not perfect though. Zoom creeping can be a bit of annoying and some may miss a dedicated tripod mount (especially when using teleconverters). The AF is extremely quick and noiseless. The performance of the optical image stabilizer system is also impressive - and also needed at such long focal lengths. While the lens-based IS is pretty good already, it is a bit unfortunate that Olympus users can't take advantage of Dual-IS (=combining the optical IS with the in-camera IS system). So if you intend to have this as your primary lens, you may be better off with a Panasonic camera.

If you want a darn-sharp zoom lens, the Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 50-200mm f/2.8-4 ASPH Power OIS is an obvious choice albeit an overly expensive one. For portraits and other "bokeh-centric" applications, you may prefer to look elsewhere though (the Olympus 45mm f/1.2 PRO is superb).

Je ne comprends pas leur note de 3/5 étoile Prix/performance !
On sait très bien que la qualité se paie, et il a déjà baissé !
J'en suis très satisfait, sacré duo avec le Leica 12/60mm...
