Copieur!  ;)

Panasonic Lumix S 20-60mm F3.5-5.6 Review | Photography Blog (9 + 2 pages)

Citation de: Tim Coleman, Photography BlogPhotographers may find it hard to get excited about standard zoom lenses with a modest maximum aperture, such as the new Panasonic S 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

However, such 'kit' lenses at this level need to complement the cameras they serve and the Panasonic S series cameras have large boots to fill. Put it this way - you wouldn't want to fork out loads of cash on a camera to then use a sub-par lens. Thankfully, this is not the case.

There really is no other lens like the 20-60mm in the in Panasonic's L-Mount range. Coming in as the smallest, lightest and cheapest lens in the range by a long way, we have been pleasantly surprised by our overall experience.

Not only does its size (and weight) complement a Lumix S1 body perfectly, the lens construction is very sturdy. Even without the 'PRO' badge, it's built virtually to the same durable standard as some of the big boys like the 24-70mm f/2.8 PRO lens.

Focusing is lightning fast for photos and perfectly smooth (and silent) for videos. We didn't miss the manual focus clutch too much given all of the focusing info readily to hand via an S1 screen display.

We have been completely won over by the handling of the lens. With silent focusing, minimal focus breathing, excellent autofocus and a focal range of 20-60mm, this lens in clearly positioned in the hybrid realm, practically serving photographers and videographers in a wide range of scenarios.

And this lens is no slouch when it comes to image quality. Detail is very sharp across the entire focal range with an optimum performance at f/11. Even at maximum apertures there is the slightest drop in sharpness and we would have no hesitation pushing the lens this way.

Most impressively, there is virtually no decline in sharpness from centre to corners. Overall, the 20-60mm lens is not critically sharp like lenses triple the price, but it impresses and lens distortions are controlled well, too. Of course, you do not get the option of true shallow depth of field, dreamy bokeh, or lowlight versatility, but the gain is a compact and versatile lens.

Our final word is that the Panasonic S 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6 lens is a welcome addition to the L-Mount range. It's versatile, compact and light, handles like a dream and complements a Lumix S1 body well in all areas.

Essai du Panasonic Lumix S Pro 16-35 mm f/4 monté sur Panasonic Lumix DC-S1R par Tim Coleman pour Photography Blog :

Panasonic Lumix S PRO 16-35mm F4 Review | Photography Blog (9 + 3 pages)

Citation de: Tim Coleman, Photography BlogIn the Panasonic Lumix S 16-35mm F4 PRO, we have a compact and lightweight wide-angle zoom lens with a solid, weather-sealed construction. We love the manual focus clutch and have appreciated how the lens handles, not least of which its silent, rapid and reliable autofocus.

We wouldn't expect (or particular need) optical image stabilisation, especially given this lens is designed to pair with a Panasonic S1 camera that already boasts excellent image stabilisation. Even for video, it's possible to get smooth handheld shots with such a pairing.

Between Leica, Sigma and Panasonic, the range of L-Mount lenses is growing. At the time of writing, this is the widest lens that Panasonic offers and the natural choice for traditional landscape photographers, though it will also serve action photography at close quarters and general use where space is limited.

Within its context, we expect photographers to be very happy with the 16-35mm lens. It is critically sharp from f4 to f/11. Image quality wise we have been massively impressed by the performance at F4. Normally, we would stop the lens down 1EV to begin attaining peak sharpness, but you don't really need to here. The optimum performance is at f/8 to f/11 where lens aberrations are under control too. There is a fall off in detail at f/16 which is a shame. All other lens aberrations are handled well.

At £1,499, the 16-35mm lens seems expensive. Like-for-like DSLR lenses come in under £1,000 (although we've not run a quality comparison). However, Panasonic S camera are pricey, so this may not be a concern. Also, in the L-Mount the only other option is from Leica, and there's no prizes for guessing which L-Mount lens offers the best value. Further alternatives that may offer better value are any of Sigma's wide-angle primes lenses, of which there are six around this 16-35mm range.

In its own right, the Panasonic Lumix S 16-35mm F4 PRO lens is well made, handles like a dream and it produces sharp images with minimal distortion. You'll get decent portraits in the environment with it too.
