Commentaire introductif de Klaus sur le forum : "I quite like it".

Qualité optique : 4/5
Qualité mécanique : 4,8/5
Rapport performances / prix : 4/5

Citation de: Klaus Schroiff, Optical LimitsThere are probably two camps of people out there when it comes to the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary. One camp is surely asking what the fuzz is all about - after all it's a comparatively slow speed and expensive lens - whereas the other camp is rather enthusiastic about it because the lens combines high product quality in a low-profile package - perfectly aligned to street photography for instance. In terms of optical performance, the results are pretty impressive. The center quality is very sharp at f/2.8 and the outer image field is pretty good, too. Stopped down to medium aperture settings, the center reaches superb levels and the border/corners improve to very good quality. Lateral CAs are quite negligible. However, the native vignetting, as well as image distortion, are relatively high for such a lens but then Sony's image auto-correction will take care of this. The technical quality of the bokeh is decent albeit not perfect.

The mechanical quality of the lens is nothing short of outstanding and it puts much higher priced offerings to shame. The all-metal construction looks and feels great. And how often do we see a metal lens hood - and this one isn't just a smooth barrel but a fluted one. The damped(!) focus ring, as well as the addition of an aperture ring,  is also something special. If you are nit-picky you may criticize the partial weather-sealing. The AF is fast and silent.

The biggest flaw of the lens doesn't relate to its characteristic but to its name - it is just no "Contemporary" lens. It is ARTier than some designated ART lenses in Sigma's lineup for sure (BTW, ART is not about speed only - e.g. the Sigma 30mm f/2.8 DN ART is/was just as fast). So regarding the "love it" or "hate it" group question, yours truly is certainly in the first group - thus highly recommended! Your mileage may vary though.

Essai du Sigma 45 mm f/2,8 DG DN | Contemporary sur Sony Alpha 7R III par Mark Goldstein pour Photography Blog :

Sigma 45mm F2.8 DG DN Review | Photography Blog (5 + 3 pages)

Citation de: Mark Goldstein, Photography BlogThe Sigma 45mm F2.8 DG DN lens offers quite an unusual standard focal length of 45mm for full-frame mirrorless cameras from Sony, Panasonic, Leica and Sigma themselves.

It's small size and weight make it a perfect match to a small mirrorless camera like the Sony Alpha A7 III that we tested it with.

It offers good sharpness wide-open at f/2.8, excellent build quality and weather-proofing, nice bokeh and fast and quiet auto-focusing, all at a very affordable price.

The Sigma 45mm F2.8 DG DN is tack-sharp in the centre from f/4 onwards, although you need to stop down to f/5.6 to get acceptable results at the edges of the frame. Chromatic aberrations and vignetting are both very well controlled.

The auto-focusing system proved to be quick, reliable and virtually silent on the Sony A7R II that we tested the lens with, and manual focus over-ride at any time is a great feature.

It's shame that the very welcome aperture ring can't be de-clicked for video use, though, as otherwise this lens is well-suited to both shooting stills and movie-making.

Build quality is very good, with the brass lens mount, metal lens barrel, and the sober all-black design adding to the high-quality feel, and Sigma have even generously included a metal circular lens hood.

The modest asking price of the Sigma 45mm F2.8 DG DN is reasonable for such a compact, well-built, high-performance lens.

If you're in the market for a small, light standard lens that's perfect for travel and street photography, then the Sigma 45mm F2.8 DG DN should be high on your list of candidates.

Essai du Sigma 45 mm f/2,8 DG DN | Contemporary sur Sony Alpha 7R II par Arkadiusz Olech et Maciej Latałło pour LensTip.com :

Sigma C 45 mm f/2.8 DG DN review - LensTip.com

Points forts :

Citation de: Arkadiusz Olech et Maciej Latałło, LensTip.comC series f/1.4 prime lenses, produced by Sigma for mirrorless APS-C cameras, so far have had sensible dimensions and offered excellent image quality for a quite affordable price. In the case of the Sigma C 45 mm f/2.8 DG DN you get a much slower aperture and a higher price tag, amounting to almost $500, small wonder our opinions after the test aren't especially enthusiastic. We also don't catch the idea behind that launch. In a perfect world a renowned producer should have in their line-up an array of f/1.2-1.4 primes, instruments that aren't strongly limited by dimensions and weight because their priority is a superior image quality. Still, that line of top-of-the-range, fast primes should be supplemented by a series of f/1.8-2.0 lenses aimed at less affluent and/or amateur photographers. These instruments should have strict limits concerning dimensions and pricing. Additionally, another series of 2.4-2.8 primes would be a nice addition but, in my opinion, their release would be justifiable only if they were small instruments, pancakes preferably, and optically very good, especially in the frame centre.

How the Sigma C 45 mm f/2.8 DG DN fits that scenario? Not in a perfect way, to be sure. It is a bit too big, too expensive, and its optical performance is not outstanding. In objective terms it is a well-put-together lens, with just one serious flaw, high vignetting, and a lot of serious assets. You can have some slight reservations concerning sharpness at the very maximum aperture but from f/3.2–3.5 images are of really good quality even on the edge of full frame. I suppose if you decide to purchase the tested lens you will enjoy it for sure.

After running the full test and composing descriptions for all the chapters I started to wonder whether or not I was being too fussy. On the one hand I complain that I am bored with testing ordinary, run-of-the-mill lenses, and, on the other hand, when I finally get a very original device I complain again that it could have been more typical. I suppose I am getting old...
