Le Tamron 11-20mm F2.8 Di III-A RXD (900 euros) est un superbe zoom APSC pour la monture E. Il produit d’excellents résultats à toutes les longueurs focales avec un très beau bokeh, un flou d’arrière plan très doux pour un grand angle, un très bon rendu des couleurs, très contrasté, un très bon AF, une faible distorsion (sauf à 11mm), son seul point faible étant la résistance au flare qui est moyenne.

Il sera idéal en photo de paysage et d’architecture mais aussi en vidéo pour du Vlog sur le nouveau ZV-E10 ou sur une gimbal.

Ses performances sont très supérieures à celles du Sony E 10-18mm F4 OSS et il fait jeu égal au centre avec les meilleures focales fixes dans cette gamme de focales :

• Samyang 12mm F2 (500 euros)
• Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary (APS-C) (450 euros)

There aren't too many ultra-wide-angle zoom lenses available for Sony's range of APS-C mirrorless cameras, so it's great to see Tamron providing an option in the shape of the excellent 11-20mm F2.8 Di III-A RXD.

It does suffer from a few image quality issues - most notably obvious distortion at both ends of the zoom range and flare when including a strong light source in the frame.

Sharpness is excellent in the centre of the frame throughout all of the focal lengths, even when shooting wide-open at the fastest f/2.8 maximum aperture. It does drop off a little at the edges, though, requiring you to stop down to f/4 to achieve a similar level of sharpness.

The lens is usefully weather-sealed, another indication of its serious credentials, although unlike the very similar 17-70mm optic, there is no inclusion of Tamron's Vibration Compensation image stabilization system on this lens.

We were also disappointed by the complete lack of any physical controls on this lens - having to delve into the complex Sony menu system every time you want to change the focus mode proved to be somewhat annoying.

On a more positive note, auto-focusing proved to be quick, reliable and quiet, in both good and bad light - it was so reliable that we never had cause for complaint.

Compared to its only real main rival, the similarly priced Sony E 10-18mm F4 OSS, the Tamron 11-20mm for Sony is over 100g heavier, a couple of cms longer and doesn't have optical stabilization, but you do crucially get the faster maximum aperture, better build quality and weather-sealing, which for us gives it the edge.

If you're in the market for an ultra wide angle zoom lens with a fast maximum aperture, then the new Tamron 11-20mm F2.8 Di III-A RXD lens should definitely be on your shopping list.

- autofocus rapide et pratiquement silencieux
- léger
- protégé contre les intempéries
- fait la paire avec le 17-70 mm
- vignetage modeste.
 
Points faibles :

- énorme distorsion à 11 mm
- pas de stabilisation optique
- la distance minimale de mise au point en grand-angle.

Highly Recommended – an ideal travel companion with a superb performance.

No two ways about it, this is an extraordinary lens. Its performance is superb, it is far lighter than it could be expected to be, it has weather sealing and the price is realistic. An ideal travel companion, with the bonus of that fast, bright f/2.8 aperture. It doesn't have any form of shake reduction, but fortunately, this may be more acceptable in an ultra-wide lens rather than in a telephoto. Still, that would have been the icing on the cake and some Sony bodies do have inbuilt SteadyShot.

When we combine this with Tamron's matching 17-70mm, it gives a powerful duo of lenses that could be all the travelling light photographer would need.
