Concernant le prix, il faut rappeler que celui de cette catégorie d'objectifs - les zoom trans-standards des grandes marques ouvrant à f/2,8 - a toujours été élevé.
Depuis leur apparition à la fin des années 1980 et au début des années 1990, les Canon 28-80 mm puis 28-70 mm et les Minolta, Nikon, Pentax 28-70 mm ont toujours coûté l'équivalent de 1900 à 2200 €.
Aujourd'hui, ces objectifs trans-standards f/2,8 ont gagné 4 mm en courte focale; ils sont autrement plus complexes - leurs formules optiques ne comprend plus "seulement" 2 ou 3 éléments en verre spécial (lentille asphérique, verre ED, UD ou au fluor), mais toute une ribambelle permettant des performances extrêmement élevées dès la pleine ouverture et les motorisations de l'autofocus sont autrement plus rapides et précises...
Enfin leur agrément d'emploi a progressé: la màp mini était autrefois de l'ordre de 50, 70, voire 85 cm contre moins de 35 cm actuellement...
Au vu des progrès optiques et techniques réalisés, le prix - même s'il n'est pas indolore, me semble justifié...

et même les "seulement" f4 constant ont de grandes qualités (dans certaines plages d'utilisation) mais ils peuvent faire plaisir à prix plus modéré

Put simply, if cost isn't a factor, the new Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II is the best all-round standard zoom lens for Sony Alpha full-frame cameras.

It improves on the 6-year-old original version in virtually every way, from auto-focusing speed to feature-set, size and weight to close-up performance. The Mark II really is a very impressive update of what was already an excellent lens.

Compared to its main rivals, the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art is now out-performed by this new Sony standard zoom, but the Sigma lens is so much cheaper that it's a more than worthy alternative.

Meanwhile, the new Samyang AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE that we recently reviewed is an even cheaper alternative, but can't quite match the other two in terms of image quality or features.

In terms of its optical performance, the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II is bitingly sharp in the centre throughout all of the zoom and aperture range, with the edge performance not too far behind either.

It produces some very nice bokeh effects thanks to the 11-blade iris diaphragm, vignetting is not too evident, and chromatic aberrations are almost non-existent. Even the close-up performance is great, which adds a lot to the lens' versatility.

The only real optical negative that we encountered is obvious barrel distortion at 24mm and pincushioning at 70mm, in both the JPEG and Raw files. You'll either need to turn Distortion Compensation on in-camera (which we'd advise anyway), wait for the software manufacturers to release a lens profile to support it, or remove the distortion in post-processing.

Auto-focusing proved to be very quick on the Sony Alpha A9 that we tested the lens with, and it offers a near silent experience that will suit movie shooters and candid street photographers alike.

Build quality is top-notch, in spite of the lightweight design, and Sony have included an excellent lens hood with a filter window and a quality soft case with strap in the overall package.

The Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II lens is also very usefully weather-proof thanks to seals around all the buttons and switches and a rubber gasket around the lens mount.

The new aperture ring is a very welcome addition, especially as it can be de-clicked for video and also locked into place. With two focus hold buttons and a brand new switch for changing the torque of the zoom ring, this is a very well featured lens indeed.

This lens still doesn't have a built-in optical image stabilisation system, though, instead relying on Sony's in-camera system, which will be fine for everyone except those who own a first generation Alpha camera (which don't have built-in OIS).

Finally, we come to the price of the Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II. Whilst £2099 / $2199 is certainly a lot to pay for a standard zoom, you do get a quite remarkable lens for your money, and credit is perhaps due to Sony for not actually putting the price up in these financially challenging times.

If cost is a big factor, then the excellent Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN Art is there for you (and even the Samyang AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE if money really is tight), but if you want the best standard zoom for your Sony Alpha camera and are prepared to pay whatever it takes, the new Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II is the one lens to rule them all.

J'ai reçu samedi matin mon objectif Sony 24-70 F2,8 GMII, vendu par Caxxx de Nantes, colis en parfait état, emballage soigné très protecteur. C'est parfait !

J'ai pris quelques instants pour tester l'optique qui répond vraiment à toutes mes attentes : piqué et bokeh excellents, je ne regrette pas l'abandon de certaines de mes optiques fixes dont les changements fréquents me fatigué. J'ai revendu mes optiques Batis (excellentes) pour financer en partie cet achat.
J'ai désormais mon couteau suisse de qualité à peine plus encombrant et lourd que le 24-105, j'en ai été agréablement surpris.
Le gabarit de l'objectif est tout à fait cohérent avec mon Alpha 7RIII.

Bref, je suis très satisfait de mon acquisition.

Le Sony 24-70 mm f/2,8 GM II est un nouveau petit chef d'œuvre ; il reprend les codes du Sony 70-200 mm f/2,8 GM II OSS : plus piqué, plus léger, plus rapide et optimisation vidéo.

L'objectif est excellent à tous les niveaux : excellent à superbe piqué avec une légère chute dans les coins (très bons à excellents), superbe rendu des couleurs et micro-contraste. Très beaux ronds de bokeh et flou d'arrière-plan très doux. Autofocus excellent dans tous les scénarios, très bonne résistance au flare pour un 24-70, superbe performance en vidéo avec la bague d'ouverture, parfocal et focus breathing quasi-nul.

Le seul reproche que je peux lui faire, à part son prix, est le bokeh en rondelles d'oignon dans certains cas difficiles.

Cet objectif est un indispensable si vous possédez l'Alpha 1 pour bénéficier des 30 im/s ou si vous avez l'Alpha 7R IV pour tirer la quintessence des 61 Mpix à toutes les focales ou si vous faites beaucoup de vidéos (sur tous les boîtiers). Dans tous les autres cas le Sigma 24-70 mm f/2,8 DG DN | Art offre 80% des performances du GM pour 50% de son prix.

A recommander sans hésitation.

The Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II is a positive surprise in this lens class. To be honest - yours truly has never been a fan of "fast" standard zoom lenses. The truth is that they aren't fast by the prime lens standards in this range at all, the zoom range is rather limited and on top of that, the whole package had the size and weight of a brick. Plus the insane price tag. And several members of the species aren't even overly stellar in terms of optical performance. At least some of these counterarguments no longer apply to the new Sony lens. At less than 700g, it is in the same weight class as your average 24-105mm f/4. And the cream on the cappuccino is a great sharpness at most settings. The results are just great at 24mm and 40mm and still quite impressive at 70mm. The vignetting, distortion and CA figures are about typical for a lens in this class and usually nothing to worry about thanks to auto-correction anyway. The quality of the bokeh is pretty good for a standard zoom lens - especially when compared to its predecessor. In critical scenes, you may spot some LoCAs but it isn't overly pronounced at least. The weakest aspect of the Sony lens is flare which can get freaky in difficult scenes thus it's also a good idea to leave the lens hood attached during shooting.

While you might think that the build quality suffered due to the weight savings, we can't confirm this really. Despite using more plastics, the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II still feels like a professional-grade tool. It's far from the plasticky feel of your average Tamron lens for instance. Sony applied its usual set of additional GM-class goodness. The lens is sealed against dust and moisture - and the fluorine-coated front element should help in this respect as well. There are also two focus stop buttons and a dedicated aperture ring. The latter can also be set into clickless mode for movies. Additionally, you can control the friction of the zoom mechanism. The high friction mode should also prevent zoom creeping. Sony has been using XD linear motors for focusing for a while now but this time they incorporated no less than 4 of them. Despite the amount of glass to be shifted around, the AF speed is exceedingly fast and, of course, silent. In-lens image stabilization is not provided but then most modern Sony cameras can do this for you anyway.

Overall, the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II is an impressive piece of equipment and at least for the time being, it's back at the top of the food chain. Highly recommended!

Highly Recommended – Gorgeous quality and superb handling, although expensive.

Is it better than the previous model? Yes, it is capable of higher levels of sharpness, is lighter, has lower CA, and overall does indeed perform better. It is a very high-class lens, and of course, this is reflected in the price. It is food for thought, but there are plenty of lenses out there that are less expensive and yet still offer a very satisfactory level of performance. For the most critical uses, then the new Sony lens will score on its performance, and for some nothing less will do. For those of us with less deep pockets, it might have to remain an aspiration, but in the end, it's a cracking good lens that delivers the quality and it is 'Highly Recommended'.

Oui il semble bien !

C'est bien dommage que dxo ne présente pas de mesure sur les concurrents récent de ce zoom. Les écarts sur la qualité optique entre les  Tamron, Sigma, Samyang de ces deux dernières année sont certainement très petits.
