相机Beta (Camera Beta) avait posté hier sur Weibo une vidéo de déballage d'un exemplaire de démonstration du Venus Optics Laowa FFii 90 mm f/2,8 CA-Dreamer Macro 2x et indiqué que l'annonce de l'objectif devrait intervenir le 23 mai prochain, au moins en Chine :

Comme les autres Laowa Macro 2x, ce 90 mm f/2,8 garde une longueur constante lorsque le rapport de reproduction augmente. Pour autant, il n 'est pas à mise au point interne. Un deuxième tube coulisse à l'intérieur du fût externe ; ce dernier est obturé à l'avant par un dioptre plan. La "vraie" lentille avant se situe à peu près à mi-longueur du fût lorsque le point est sur l'infini et tout près du dioptre plan au rapport 2x.

L'objectif n'a aucun contact de communication avec le boîtier.

The Laowa 90mm f/2.8 2x Ultra-Macro APO is another attractive macro lens in their arsenal. As of the time of writing this article, it's their 9th (true) macro lens - a release frequency and variety that is putting original manufacturers to shame in this market segment. And like most of its in-house cousins, it is capable of delivering very good results... with just a few caveats. Image sharpness is very decent at f/2.8 and superb at medium aperture settings. The native image distortions are absent. Lateral CAs are well controlled and axial CAs are negligible. The vignetting is only moderately high at f/2.8. The quality of the bokeh is a bit of a mixed bag. Out-of-focus highlights are nicely rendered but the general out-of-focus blur can be a little nervous in the image background. The lens is also quite prone to flare thus you should always use the supplied lens hood. The RSAs aren't ideal in extreme close-up scenarios.

It is a fully manual lens which may or may not be a showstopper for some users. There is no AF, the aperture has to be controlled on the lens and there's no EXIF data. On the positive side, the build quality is great thanks to a tightly assembled full-metal body and a super smooth focus ring. Like most Laowa lenses, the 90mm f/2.8 2x Ultra-Macro APO is also comparatively compact. There is no weather-sealing but the inner focusing system should help to protect it against the elements to some degree at least. A big selling point for macro enthusiasts is certainly the maximum object magnification of 2:1 - even Canon doesn't offer this.

And finally, lets not forget the pricing. At $499USD, the Laowa lens is very reasonably priced for such an extreme macro lens, especially when taking its apochromatic design into account. It's not a lens for everybody but it'll surely find its friends out there.

Le Laowa 90 mm f/2,8 2x Ultra Macro Apo (659 €) est une excellente optique macro et la meilleure disponible en monture E pour le rapport 2:1 ; elle est meilleure que les Laowa 100 mm f/2,8 2x Ultra Macro Apo, Laowa 85 mm f/5,6 2x Ultra Macro Apo et Laowa CF 65 mm f/2,8 2x Ultra Macro Apo.

Si votre but est de la macro 1:1, alors le superbe Sigma 105 mm f/2,8 DG DN Macro | Art (750 €) est la meilleure optique macro pour la monture E.

A recommander pour la macro 2:1.

Points faibles :

• la qualité de l'image sur les bords au voisinage de l'ouverture maximale aurait dû être meilleure
• coma un peu trop élevée
• très faible performance en contre-jour

Our summary of the test of the Venus Optics LAOWA FFII 90 mm f/2.8 CA-Dreamer Macro 2X can be only very positive. Of course it is not a lens devoid of flaws – you don't get any contacts, the performance against bright light is terrible and we don't like a huge difference in resolution between the centre and the very edge of the frame.

Still three things should be taken into account. Firstly the price. The Laowa can be bought for about $500, so $200 less than the price of the Tamron, $290 lower than the price of Sigma. Also Nikkor Z 2.8/105 Macro and Sony 2.8/90 Macro are much more expensive ($350 and $500, respectively). The Laowa and the Tamron remain the cheapest models available on the market. Secondly, the parameters. Here you have to remember that the Laowa, as the only lens in this group, is able to offer you the 2:1 reproduction ratio and it is a serious asset. Thirdly, the advantages to disadvantages ratio. At such an affordable price you get a lot – the Laowa seems to be the sharpest in the frame centre and, at the same time, it corrects a lot of basic optical aberrations really well, faring especially well in case of vignetting where it is able to outclass its rivals. Taking it all into account you should be really glad such an instrument is available on the market as it complements exceedingly well the range of 90-105 mm macro models and makes the whole segment more competitive.
