Points forts :

I am very happy I was given an opportunity to test this lens. First of all, a round of applause for the Sony company – they proved they treat the APS-C system seriously. If a company wants their customers to treat it seriously as well, they have to offer such instruments as the Sony E 15 mm f/1.4G.

In this lens you get everything you should expect from such an instrument– a shapely, lightweight device with a very good aperture fastness that is sharp across the frame up from the maximum relative aperture. There are some flaws but only in categories we expected them to be – distortion and vignetting. Also the lens could have performed better when it comes to longitudinal chromatic aberration; still it can't change our very positive assessment of the new Sony product.

The price tag might be a small spoon of tar in a barrel of honey. When writing these words the European price reaches 850 Euro – almost two times higher than the price of the rival Sigma.

We hope it's not the last f/1.4 Sony lens designed for APS-C sensors and privately we wish to see even faster models released in the future. Anyway we are going to keep our fingers crossed!

Le Sony 15 mm f/1,4 G (850 euros) est une excellente optique grand angle APS-C. C'est une sorte de mini GM avec tout ce qu'on peut attendre d'une optique haut-de-gamme : léger, compact, excellente ergonomie avec une bague d'ouverture avec ou sans clics, piqué excellent, très bon rendu des couleurs, ronds de bokeh, flou d'arrière-plan doux, très bonne résistance au flare, faibles aberrations chromatiques.

Les seuls défauts sont la forte distorsion et le vignetage, qui seront bientôt automatiquement corrigés par Lightroom, et bien sûr le prix élevé.

Alternative :

Le Sony est supérieur au Sigma 16 mm f/1,4 DC DN | Contemporary sur de nombreux points : meilleur piqué à pleine ouverture, meilleure ergonomie en vidéo, plus compact et léger, meilleure résistance au flare, aberrations chromatiques plus faibles. Le Sigma reste très bon globalement. A vous de voir si les améliorations du Sony valent le double du prix du Sigma en fonction de vos priorités.

A recommander sans hésitation.

The E 15mm F1.4 G is a very welcome premium wide-angle addition to the rather neglected Sony APS-C sensor mirrorless camera system. This baby G-Master lens is one of the pricier Sony primes available, but it certainly offers a lot of features and performance in return.

The main attraction is the very fast F1.4 maximum aperture which helps to make this 22.5mm equivalent lens more versatile than a slower optic, ideal for both vlogging to camera where you want to throw out the background and for more traditional landscape and architecture stills photography where you want to stop down the aperture.

The build quality is excellent, including full weather-sealing, although you'll ideally want to pair it with an equally weather-sealed lens for full peace of mind (unlike the ZV-E10 that we tested it with).

You'll also ideally want to pair it with a stabilized camera body like the Alpha A6600 as it doesn't have any OIS, which again meant that the non-stabilized ZV-E10 was a less than ideal partner.

The E 15mm F1.4 G and ZV-E10 did prove to be a great match when it came to auto-focusing, which proved to be be fast, reliable and virtually silent. We also liked the linear manual focusing ring and the traditional aperture ring that can usefully be de-clicked for video use.

Optically, the centre sharpness was very high throughout all of the aperture range, with the exception of wide-open at F1.4. Edge sharpness doesn't quite match the center, though, unless you explicitly focus on the subject at the edge of the frame.

Chromatic aberrations are almost completely absent, vignetting isn't too obvious, and flare is present but well controlled even when shooting directly into the sun.

The only real notable optical issue is some obvious barrel distortion in the RAW files, which is automatically corrected in-camera for the JPEG files, meaning that you'll need to do some post-processing or apply a lens correction profile if you shoot using the former file type.

This lens' main rival is the older Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN, which offers the same fast max aperture but is twice the weight and size of the new Sony 15mm. It is crucially around half the price of its new rival, though, so is still well worth considering if you're in the market for a 24mm prime.

Overall, though, the Sony E 15mm F1.4 G is our pick of the current wide-angle prime bunch, just so long as you can afford it....

Je n'ai jamais aimé les premieres séries FE, trop dépouillés.

Alors que tous ces nouveaux de la série G, ils sont beaux, biens finis, compacts, et biens pourvus, avec bouton fonction et surtout bague de diaph.

Highly Recommended – A high performance lens, ideal for both stills and vlogging.

Lenses sometimes gel very quickly, and this is one of them. It is wide enough to be interesting and fast enough to be useful in a multitude of different situations. Couple that up with the excellence that was the initial promise and we end up with a very attractive proposition. For this reviewer. the piece de resistance of the lens is the superb placement of the aperture ring, which made the ergonomics of the lens shine. This is of course where individual photographers will find individual features that make a lens the one of choice or not and there is no substitute for being able to handle the product before buying.

In summary, a very fine lens that can be 'Highly Recommended'.
