Major firmware update for the SIGMA fp: Ver.3.00 | Cameras | Products | News | SIGMA Corporation

  • It adds new Color Modes "Powder Blue" and "Duotone".

  • It adds the "Save/Load Settings" function whereby users are able to save and load the camera settings using a QR code.

  • It adds the "Quick Focus Frame Shift" function whereby users are able to use the Rear Dial's direction buttons to directly move the focus frame.

  • It adds "Custom Buttons" functions whereby users are able to assign their desired functions such as "Exposure Compensation" and "Depth of Field Preview" to the AEL button, Rear Dial (direction button), Tone Control button, Color Mode button and MODE (Shooting Mode) button.

  • It adds a "Custom Frame" option to the Frame Guide function, enabling users to enter any desired aspect ratio or absolute size value on the image sensor.

  • It changes the specification to enable users to adjust the "Color Temperature" setting in "White balance" in custom 50K increments.

  • It improves AF operation to achieve better accuracy, stability and followability.

  • It enhances the "Flicker Control" function.

  • It improves the image quality of JPEG files.

  • Other various improvements.

"Low pass filter", "USB power supply", "Image plane phase-difference AF" and "Crop Zoom" functions incorporated in the SIGMA fp L depend on the camera's hardware. Therefore, updating firmware of the SIGMA fp does not make the camera compatible with these features.

Essai du Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-70 mm f/2,8 Asph. sur Leica SL2-S par Mark Goldstein pour Photography Blog :

Leica VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 24-70mm f/2.8 ASPH. Review | Photography Blog (8 + 3 pages)

Citation de: Mark Goldstein, Photography BlogThe Leica VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 24–70mm f/2.8 ASPH. is an incredibly well-built, very fast standard zoom lens that delivers superb image quality for L-mount camera owners, joining the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art and the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm F2.8.

In terms of its optical performance, it's tack-sharp in the centre throughout all of the zoom range, with sharpness only falling off a little at f/2.8 at the very edges of the frame. It also produces some very nice bokeh effects thanks to the 11-blade iris diaphragm.

There's some vignetting at wide-open apertures, barrel distortion at 24mm and slight pincushioning at 70mm, but all of this can be corrected either in-camera or during post-processing.

Auto-focusing proved to be very quick on the Leica SLS-2 camera that we tested the lens with, and manual focus over-ride at any time is a great feature, although we did miss having a dedicated AF/MF switch on the lens barrel.

We also missed the zoom lock switch and configurable AFL button that can be found on the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art, both of which have been omitted from the much more pared-back design of the Leica VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 24–70mm f/2.8 ASPH.

This lens also doesn't have a built-in optical image stabilisation, instead relying on Leica's in-body system, which on the SLS-2 camera that we tested it with provides a respectable 5.5 stops of compensation.

Build quality is outstanding, though, with the all-metal construction a notable step above the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art, which uses a mixture of metal and plastic.

Leica have also included a very good metal lens hood, too, although sadly there's no case included, again something that Sigma offer with their lens.

The Leica VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 24–70mm f/2.8 ASPH. lens is also very usefully weather-sealed.

As with virtually all Leica products, the price of the VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 24–70mm f/2.8 ASPH. is rather eye-watering at £2299 / $2795, although the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm F2.8 is pretty comparably priced at £2149 / $2199.

Both of those lenses look horribly overpriced next to the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art, which is literally half the cost of the Panasonic lens, never mind the even more expensive Leica, whilst being a fantastic lens in its own right.

So fantastic, in fact, that Leica have essentially commissioned Sigma to produce a better built version of their 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art lens to create the new VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 24–70mm f/2.8 ASPH. It tellingly has exactly the same optical construction as Sigma's lens whilst being made in Japan, the home of Sigma, rather than Germany, the home of Leica.

The Leica outscores the Sigma original in terms of build quality with its all-metal chassis, but loses out in terms of features and controls with its much simpler design.

Crucially we couldn't detect any differences in image quality, so choosing the VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 24–70mm f/2.8 ASPH. over the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art comes down to how much you value the Leica badge and the more robust construction. And don't forget the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm F2.8, either, which boasts a manual focus clutch and build quality that's almost on par with the Leica.

Panasonic Lumix S 24mm F1.8 Review | Photography Blog (5 + 2 pages)

Citation de: Mark Goldstein, Photography BlogThe new Lumix S 24mm F1.8 is one of the more affordable lenses available in the still relatively new Panasonic full-frame mirrorless system, but thankfully it outperforms its modest price tag.

There's lots to like in terms of the Panasonic Lumix S 24mm F1.8's image quality, and very little to complain about.

This lens is sharp almost from the get-go, excellent in both the centre and at the edges of the frame when shooting wide open at f/1.8, and simply outstanding between f/2.8 and f/11.

It's also capable of producing some very nice bokeh effects for what is after all only an f/1.8 lens.

There is some obvious vignetting wide-open at f/1.8, but this can easily be corrected in post-processing, or you can stop down to f/4 to help avoid it altogether.

Chromatic aberrations are very well controlled and it even produces some nice sun-star effects at f/16.

The build quality is very good, with the built-in weather-proofing offering some peace of mind in more inclement conditions.

Auto-focusing proved to be fairly quick and reliable on the Panasonic Lumix S5 camera body that we tested the lens with thanks to the 240fps linear motor.

In addition the focus mechanism is barely audible, making the lens very well-suited to video use.

There's no manual focus override available at any time, though, and the lens lacks its own optical image stabilisation system, instead relying on the camera body (if it has one).

With a full retail price of £799.99 / €899.99 / $899.99, the Panasonic Lumix S 24mm F1.8 offers a lot in terms of its value for money.

It makes for a very nice partner when paired with the diminutive Lumix S5 camera that we reviewed it with.

Overall, it certainly fits the bill as a fast, high quality yet affordable wide-angle prime lens for Panasonic S full-frame camera users.

Panasonic L-Mount S 24mm F/1.8 Lens Review | ePHOTOzine (3 + 1 pages)

Points forts :

- excellent piqué au centre
- protégé contre la poussière et les éclaboussures
- pratiquement pas d'aberrations chromatiques au centre
- aberrations chromatiques bien contrôlées sur les bords
- vignetage raisonnable
- faible distorsion
- excellent maniement

Citation de: John Riley, ePHOTOzineHighly Recommended - A great lens for both stills and video that delivers excellent results.

Some considerable thought seems to have been invested in this set of three matching lenses, aimed not only at stills photographers but also at videographers. In the case of the 24mm, the quality is high, the handling excellent and the price reasonable. There have also been improvements in the small design details, such as the lens hood release catch.

24mm is in itself a very versatile general-purpose wide-angle focal length, which can encompass street photography and environmental portraits, as well as landscape and architecture.

In terms of performance, apart from lower edge sharpness that is more apparent in shooting flat test charts than shooting three-dimensional subjects in the field, it delivers quality images. In terms of handling, it is a beauty and has no vices. Focusing and exposure are both spot on and as an old favourite, a 24mm lens fits with so many subjects with complete ease. In summary, the lens is a pleasure to use.

'Highly Recommended'.

Citation de: Mark Goldstein, Photography BlogThe Lumix S 50mm F1.8 is one of the most affordable lenses available in the still relatively new Panasonic full-frame mirrorless system, but thankfully it more than out-performs its modest price tag.

There's lots to like in terms of the Panasonic Lumix S 50mm F1.8's image quality, and very little to complain about.

The build quality is very good, with the built-in weather-proofing offering some peace of mind in more inclement conditions.

Auto-focusing proved to be fairly quick and reliable on the Panasonic Lumix S5 camera body that we tested the lens with thanks to the 240fps linear motor.

Overall, it certainly fits the bill as a fast, high quality standard prime lens for Panasonic S full-frame camera users that doesn't break the bank.

Panasonic S 85mm F/1.8 Lens Review | ePHOTOzine (3 + 1 pages)

Points forts :

- excellent piqué sur tout le champ
- protégé contre la poussière et les éclaboussures
- pratiquement pas d'aberrations chromatiques au centre
- aberrations chromatiques bien contrôlées sur les bords
- très faible vignetage
- pratiquement rectilinéaire (pas de distorsion)
- excellent maniement

Citation de: John Riley, ePHOTOzineEditor's Choice - A beautiful lens that performs impeccably as well as being keenly priced.

The 85mm lens has often been considered the lens most likely to be the pinnacle of performance in any given manufacturer's range, and it certainly looks as though the Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f/1.8 lens has aspirations to fulfil that position.

It has a remarkably high and even performance, no vices in terms of handling and an attractive price tag. The maximum aperture is of course not as fast as the f/1.4 lenses available, but the slightly slower speed may be well worth the more modest pricing level, and indeed a considerable reduction in size and weight. The difference between f/1.8 and f/1.4 in practical use is arguably very small.

In summary, a lovely lens to use and one capable of really excellent results, all at a very reasonable price, and therefore a clear 'Editor's Choice'.
