Les Phenix ont effectivement du mal à cacher leur origine mais ils ne sortent pas de l'usine Cosina mais bien de chez Phenix en Chine qui les fabriquaient sous licence.

La particularité de ce clone Chinois est d'avoir un dos et un capot métallique et non plastique comme le modèle Cosina. Ils sont moins récent que les DC303N.

Ça ne pèse pas le poids d'un âne mort et la qualité apparente est plutôt bonne. Les modèles vendus à l'étranger étaient un peu différents et non badgé Phenix mais sous une marque distributeur.

Le Vivitar qui lui ressemble est plutôt le V3000S.

Dans la série Des clones du Cosina il y a eu aussi un boîtier badgé Contax, le S2 avec une grosse variante, le capot et la semelle en titane :8

On peut aussi y ajouter les Voigtlander Bessa séries L, T et R qui en sont des adaptations telemetriques (ou pas pour les L) en M39 ou en baïonnette Leica.

Recently we have found ourselves wondering (often out loud), if there is anything else that can go wrong, and while answer is "yes, most definitely" we are slowly learning that it is not only about avoiding setbacks, but also about how to best manage them when they eventually do happen.

And while the above image shows the design for a near-finished Reflex Model II, we have failed to meet our PhotoPlus deadline, causing more delays and timeline shifts.

So what went wrong?

In short, a mismatch between the hardware and firmware departments caused a substantial setback on the electronics DFM. A combination of poor HR judgement (due to a lack of experience on our end) and a set of wrong decisions, caused one team to underdeliver and another team to consequentially walk out. On top of that, we suffered an unfortunate setback in project management, causing even more delays.

How does this happen?

Due to our small budget, we have to work project based with certain departments and do not always have the option to hire exactly who we want or need. Due to this and some rushed decisions under pressure, we ended up with two incompatible departments. Incompatible to such an extent that it was almost surreal to witness at times. This entire episode set us back in a way that the day of the deadline felt like the day we started, two months prior.

Tho this is not exactly true, as we do have a finished circuit design and we don't have to start the firmware design entirely from scratch. Or in plain English; the electronics are advanced but not finished.

What about PhotoPus mentioned in update #22?

We did everything that was possible to get a pre-production Reflex ready for the PhotoPlus Fair in NYC last month. We had been invited by the good people at B&H to showcase the camera and lens at the main booth. The deal was that if the production was advanced enough, we would launch both camera and lens pre-sales at the fair. And while we did make it to the fair, it was a joint decision not to showcase the product at this stage.

How are we doing?

In all honesty, this last one was a bit of a blow, as it completely blindsided us. It's not something easy to write about either and It's hard to deny that recent events have not put a dent in our confidence. But we have regrouped and gone back to work, looking for a new EE team and starting off where things got left.

So what's next?

The hardest part after each delay or setback is the reboot... refinancing, reorganizing timelines, launch dates, push manufacturing, etc... this consumes a lot of time and energy.

On the other hand, the 40mm lens is tested and ready, and waiting to start generating income. However, we want to show a working Reflex camera as part of the launch campaign, so in the weeks to come we will focus on finishing what we started for PhotoPlus. This way we can showcase a working and production ready camera.

When we get to this stage we will start putting out the before-mentioned test samples and contact those who want to be involved in the testing.

We want to start this update with a few announcements which have come our way in the recent days and hours concerning the Coronavirus (or 2019-nCoV) outbreak.

As most know by now, we work on preproduction prototyping and DFM in Shenzhen (China) and a few weeks ago we had made the decision to continue to work during the Chinese New Year. This would allow us to test and fine-tune some of the mechatronics on the model II camera.   

While we had been told that all of the factories and component suppliers would take a break during the New Year (Jan 24-31), we could not foresee the events that followed. 

Due to the virus outbreak in Wuhan, everything has now been shut down by the government, including the access to our lab. The measures to extend the holidays until Feb 02 where taken to stop the virus from spreading. However, this has now been extended until Feb 10th, and yesterday the UK government announced all its citizens to return. Today we received a letter that the electronics market will now remain closed until Feb 18.       

With Hong Kong borders all closed but one and flight prices hiking up, we have decided to return to London untill further notice and continue to work on what we have.   

Progress on the Reflex model II: after the October debacle a lot of things have been set straight and we continue to tweak and test and try to get the cost down to a healthy balance without compromising on quality.
   
Going forward:  A lot of factors in the further development and production are now unclear as China will have to face both a humanitarian and economical reset. Talking to our partners and suppliers, we have noticed that they seem incapable to give us more information, as official announcements change on a daily basis and the ripple effect on the industry is not yet known.

Our new goal after October was (and still is) Photokina in May 2020 and we hope to keep to it. However, we will have to see what the future brings.

C'est curieux cet engouement pour des produits néo-vintage alors que des originaux certifiés véritables sont disponibles pour une fraction du prix.

Le passage de l'un à l'autre est instantané et de plus si l'un tombe en panne, reste l'autre.

Currently we are back in Shenzhen, be it quarantined upon returning from Europe, and for the next 7 days we have no access to the lab.

On the good side, life is slowly picking up here and today the last of the emergency restrictions have been lifted. Also, on arrival we found a delivery with the new Main PCB we ordered to just before the factories closed last month. Components will be assembled this week and we will resume testing the new microcontroller (the beating heart of this camera)
It's not much, but it's little things like this that keep us moving forward

Ceux qui ont misé (je n'en fais pas partie...) ont pris le risque ; ils ont même probablement plus de chance de gagner qu'en jouant au loto.

Et je ne serais pas surpris que, dans quelques années, ce boîtier, s'il arrive à voir le jour, devienne "collector" à un prix dépassant largement celui d'un boîtier plus ancien et plus performant ; parce que, quoiqu'on en pense (pas trop du bien en ce qui me concerne...), il est et sera une machine hors norme.

Faut un viseur, un système d'armement, un obtu, et éventuellement une cellule. C'est a dire en somme rien qui n'existe pas déjà et dont la conception ne soit pas bien connue.
Je ne vois pas où sont leurs problèmes a faire fabriquer 300 putains de praktika en Chine avec plus de 100.000 £ ?

La rétro ingénierie sur des marques disparues (pour les dos interchangeables en 35mm) ou ne détenant pas les brevets de ce qu'ils ont fabriqué sous des entités politiques qui n'existent plus c'est pas ma mère qui en a inventé le principe... Et ça date pas d'hier. Encore des crétins sorti d'une école de commerce qui n'ont jamais eu la moindre idée de comment fonctionne ce qu'ils ont la prétention de vendre 🤣 (note que sans ça, il y aurait eu une solution très simple, mais qu'ils n'ont apparemment pas envisagé : acheter des modules pour le reflex, et faire usiner les platines et fabriquer les dos ailleurs. Ou alors il fallait aussi tenir compte du fait que si le tirage change, le tirage de la visée peut varier aussi. Et donc s'aligner d'office sur la plus courte au lieu d'un choix moyen).

Techniquement, la réalisation, ou non, de l'infraction d'escroquerie, dépend notamment de la question de savoir si l'auteur a agi ou non avec astuce. Et de celle de savoir si la victime aurait pu éviter d'être trompée, en observant les mesures de prudence élémentaires.

on voit mal le client accepter de photographier à ouverture réelle de nos jours ?

C'est le cas avec l'immense majorite des bagues d'adaptation pourtant. Si on veut a tout prix avoir une map a pleine ouverture il faut l'intégrer dans les platines, pas dans le corps de l'appareil. Effectivement si il part dans des solutions mécaniques implémentées dans le corps du reflex il n'est pas rendu ce garçon. On le sait que l'électronique n'a aucun avenir, ca fait quarante ans que tout le monde le dit 😁

Si l'on a (comme moi) une collection d'optiques des sixties seventies de différentes marques, pour faire confortablement de l'argentique il suffit d'avoir un bon boîtier mécanique bien révisé
